Crowns and bridges both restore your teeth’s functionality and protect damaged teeth from future wear. However, the two work in very different situations.
Crowns cap off individual damaged teeth. If you have a tooth that has cracked, chipped, or decayed, a crown can seal together damaged areas and restore all surfaces of the tooth.
While crowns can improve the function of damaged teeth, bridges help areas with completely missing teeth. A bridge is an artificial tooth with a crown on either end. The crowns slot over teeth on either side of a gap, while the bridge fills that gap. Bridges improve the look of your smile as they hide tooth gaps, but they also function as a chewing surface too.
