Before treatment, we’ll meet with you for a consultation to make sure Botox for TMJ in New Bern is the best option for you.

TMJ is an acronym that stands for “temporomandibular joint”. This is the technical name for the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. It plays a key role in your oral health, but there are many disorders that can cause excess tightness or wear. Clenching and grinding, or bruxism, is the most common TMJ disorder, but there are many others that can impact your jaw and teeth health.

When we inject Botox into the muscles surrounding your TMJ, we take care to only affect certain muscles. This eliminates excess tension while maintaining your ability to speak, eat, and function normally.

After your injections, you won’t need to take any major downtime. Just avoid excessively massaging the injection site, as this can cause the medication to spread to unintended areas.

It may take 7 to 14 days for Botox to take effect, but you should be able to tell as it happens. With time, you’ll begin to feel relief for tension in your jaw and a lessening of any symptoms or jaw tightness.
